I launched a fundraiser (July 2022) to benefit Youth Tennis Advantage (YTA), a Bay Area afterschool program for disadvantaged youth. I learned about YTA because two of my high school teammates benefitted from this organization. I hand-delivered more than 500 flyers seeking used rackets to houses in South Berkeley and Oakland (Rockridge). I also did a GoFundMe campaign. After four months, I collected more than 100 used rackets. I also received 39 donations on GoFundMe and a $200 check from a neighbor, for a total of $1,510. I used the money to buy more rackets, several cases of balls, strings and grips.
In July 2021 I started volunteering at the Prisoners Literature Project, a Berkeley, California-based nonprofit that encourages reading among incarcerated people. The center receives hundreds of book requests from prisoners across the U.S. Volunteers find the requested books (or something similar) and write a handwritten response.
I started volunteering at the Alameda County Food Bank with my family when I was seven. In high school, I started volunteering at the Berkeley Food Network. In this photo I'm separating spoiled and non-spoiled fruits and vegetables. I’m always inspired when I volunteer at my local food bank.
